The Oldest Black Church in North America

The First African Baptist Church was founded in Savannah by slaves in 1859. The slaves who built the pews in the balcony signed them with their African Markings. In the floor there are African symbols drilled in the wood floor, which also provided ventilation for slaves on the underground railroad. (912) 233-2244
